I love this book! When the opportunity came up to review Mini Cross Stitch Ornaments from Leisure Arts, I was quite excited. It looked really interesting and I love doing cross stitch. Now that I have had a chance to have a better look at it I am super excited!
You can see from the pictures that this is a Christmas book. One of the things I like most is the section containing Nativity themed patterns. Christmas decorations tend to focus on secular images these days, such as Santa, trees, snowmen, reindeer and the like. A lot of Christian themed designs also feel a bit unsatisfactory to me. This book, however, has some lovely designs which use soft colours and really appeal to me. I can’t wait to start stitching for Christmas!
Mini Cross Stitch Ornaments also has an amazing variety of other traditionally themed designs plus a selection of more quirky ones. Have a look at the Leisure Arts page for this book to see more images from the book. Among the designs which have caught my fancy are the Santa Cow with the cow bell on its hat and the Puppy under the Christmas tree.
Along with the “General Tips” page at the end, this book also has a page of “Tips & Techniques” and one of “Finishing Instructions”. I am really impressed with these two pages and am sure I will find them useful. In the past I have only used mini cross stitch pieces in cards or small frames. These instructions are inspiring me to try to make some padded Nativity decorations.
If you are even vaguely considering doing some mini cross stitch projects for Christmas, I would highly recommend this book. There is such a variety of designs that I am sure everyone will be able to find something they love.
